----------------------------- Emerald green eyes stared at the reflection in the mirror in the dormitory that she shared with her partner. Brown hair fell below her waist and had been snipped off. She silently cursed James Potter’s name to hell and back. Merlin what was he thinking to dye her red hair? He had reminded, and promised, that he would return it to its former dark red glory. It was strange, Lily thought as she got dressed. Having her hair as a different color. The seventh year girl could understand where James was coming from. Anyone who had a lick of sense could see that Lily stood out from the crowd with her vibrant red hair. So it was completely right that James suggested that she would dye it. She was still mentally cursing his name a few minutes later as she walked down. The event had been announced a few hours ago by the Headmaster. An odd treat if truth be told, he had called it. One should be lucky that muggleborns and halfbloods were allowed in the event. A scowl formed on her face at the thought of that. Lucky. Sure, lucky to survive tonight, she thought. Lucky enough to look over one’s shoulder constantly and wondering when her time would be up.
A small shudder ran through her spine at the thought. The event would be one that would be forever remembered in her mind. In all her years at Hogwarts Lily could honestly say she never seen the school hold an event like this. Merlin, give me strength, she silently prayed as she took a last look at the mirror. Her sapphire blue dress fell just below her ankles. The skirts were a bit full and twinkled with silver. She gently ran a hand over it. Lily did admit that she had possibly went a bit over the top for this mystery dance. But it was pretty much for one night. Tomorrow she would go back to her natural red hair. A sigh escaped from her lips as she made sure that she grabbed her wand before walking out of the dorms. She had a funny feeling that she would need it for tonight. Without even thinking about waiting for James, Lily decided to go ahead into the Great Hall. Once she had set her eyes on it she wished she would have stayed in the common room for a little bit longer. A thousand live bats twittered above her head. The Hall was decorated in custom Halloween decorations.
The general atmosphere was indeed a bit creepy. Lily found it a bit ironic as she glanced around the hall. She was taking notice of her surroundings, making mental notes of escape routes. She wanted to be prepared for almost anything that would happen. She saw a few people that were huddled together in corners. She took a good look at them and saw they were muggleborns. Her stomach sank as she thought about walking over to talk to them. She decided against it as she bit down on her lower lip taking a deep shaking breath. Her instincts were on high alert. She kept on praying to Merlin as she walked over to take a sniff, trying to find out what was in a goblet that was offered to her by one of the numerous house elves that were employed by Hogwarts. Her eyes light up as she slowly took a sip tasting nothing but pumpkin juice. She glanced around again The house tables were removed and replaced with three single tables. Those tables would also be removed once the dancing had started. Not to mention the blood bath as well. She let out a soft groan as she shook her head. She wondered why she had chosen to come back at all this year.

Post by JAMES IGNOTUS POTTER on Feb 14, 2013 21:38:36 GMT
James was trying his very best to stay calm but it was proving to be very difficult. He just couldn’t stop worrying about this ball tonight. He wished there was some way that he could stop it from happening but he couldn’t think. The impending bloodbath was scaring the hell out of him because he had so many friends at risk. And just when he thought he had gotten Lily safe by claiming her; she was in danger again. But he was going to do his best to protect her. He had insisted that she dye her hair brown for the occasion so as to protect her a little. At least no one would know it was her (hopefully) since her red hair was what made her stand out from the crowd. It had pained him to ask her as much as it had pained her to do it but it was for her own safety so he was thankful when she agreed without much of a fight.
He was walking a knife edge these days. The uncertainty and worry and he was pureblood; what it must be like for those who didn’t have rights James couldn’t imagine. He really wished he didn’t have to go tonight, he didn’t want to witness a bloodbath; the thought made him sick. But he knew the consequences would be severe if he didn’t turn up. So he pulled on his dress robes and he and Sirius tried to lighten the mood in the dorms but it wasn’t possible. All of them were tense and feeling sick with anxiety and no joke was going to cure that.
He had expected to meet Lily in the common room and so when she wasn’t there and her roommates told him she had gone on alone he started to panic. Why would she do that? She knew he would worry. She was in enough danger as it was tonight. He fled the common room without waiting for his mates and headed straight for the Great Hall. Almost tripping over his black dress robes as he ran, his smart, unworn shoes slipping on the smoother surfaces. His glasses almost slipped off his nose but he held them on, his hair was just as messy as usual, there was no point trying to tame it. Everyone thought he left it a mess so it looked windswept because he was an arrogant quidditch player. But it wasn’t true. His hair was just a natural, untameable mess.
The Great Hall was already quite busy as he entered the place, breathless. He couldn’t help but let out an appreciative breath at the decorations; they were up to the usual spectacular Hogwarts standard. He searched the crowd, cursing Lily under his breath because how was he supposed to find her in all of this? He pushed through the throngs of people deciding he’d spot out the prettiest girl in the place and that’d probably be her and hoping that he got to her before anyone else did. He wanted to be by her side for the entire night so when everything did kick off he’d be right there to protect her. He wouldn’t say that, since she didn’t like the idea of him protecting her. He’d call it fighting alongside her for her benefit. Finally he spotted her and he raced over, careful to not start reprimanding her until he was close by. He didn’t want any unwanted people to catch on to them.
”Lily!” He growled under his breath, an angry look on his face that he knew she would counter with one of her own. ”What did you come down here without me for? It’s taken me ages to find you. You look...” He trailed off, his eyes finally actually seeing the image before him and it took his breath away. ”You look amazing.” He finished softly, the anger vanishing from his face. He leaned forward to kiss her cheek, at the same time slipping his hand into her free one. His other hand however was wrapped around his wand in preparation for what was to come.

SOMETIMES I FIND IT HARD• to believe there's someone else who could be •JUST AS MESSED UP AS ME Leroy hadn’t been surprised by the announcement of a ball. Nor had he been surprised when the headmaster allowed muggleborns and half-bloods to attend. He wasn’t surprised when the headmaster then mentioned something about a blood bath. The seventh year Slytherin was never one to allow emotions such as shock or surprise. It only weakened his defenses, if only for a second. A weakness was still a weakness and anyone who wasn’t careful would be knocked down. Leroy would be glad to do it. So, as he went to his dorm down in the dungeons, he pondered on whether or not he should actually go. He made his decision when, he decided, he’d stay just for the blood bath. A chance to hex and curse students without having to put up with their crying and weeping and whining. Merlin, how he hated that. It was as if they didn’t care whether or not they sunk lower and lower, the more they begged for mercy, the more they cried. It was pathetic and weak, and he would not tolerate such weakness. The Slytherin just had some simple dress robes, the Selwyn insignia on the front of them, where a chest pocket would have been.
He wasn’t one to go to such parties, finding them useless and a waste of time. The only ones he attended were the mandatory ones that he had to, as heir to a well-respected pureblood family. If he had his choice, Leroy wouldn’t even be meeting some of those people, pureblood or not, they were daft as a troll. And he only made sure to surround himself with company that was worthy, never mind blood status. As he finished up dressing in his simple dress robes, Leroy made his way out of the dormitory, and towards the Great Hall. He honestly wasn’t there to socialize or have fun, he was there to bide his time, to pick out his prey before the blood bath began. Once Leroy set his eyes on something, it will be broken, he made sure of it. However, as he arrived he was greeted with slight nods from the Slytherins and some Ravenclaws smart enough to not get on his bad side, or really bad side, he should say, as Leroy wasn’t the type to even have a good side. It was a weakness, and he didn’t do weaknesses.
His dark gaze wandered across the Great Hall, knowing through a certain instinct of his who were the weaklings and who weren’t. He noticed a group of students, huddled together near the far wall, muggleborns, most likely, and sneered at the closest group, which just whimpered and huddled even closer like penguins during a snowstorm. Pathetic. he thought turning his attention away but not before giving them one final disgusted look. To anyone else, it may as well have been a Slytherin hating muggleborns, but to Leroy, he just hated the fact they were so weak. Weaklings died; that was a fact. Whether or not they were being protected, those with a weakness died. And he was going to make sure any weaklings who were fortunate enough to survive the night would learn their lesson. And fast.
A flash of blue caught his eye and he turned his dark gaze towards the student. She had brown hair, but her face was hidden from him at the moment. He debated whether or not she would die tonight, being weak and fragile. Many girls looked that way and he detested it. Had they no shame? Even when he was wearing dress robes, Leroy Selwyn looked nothing less than the powerful man he was and could be. Some girls dolled themselves up and fancied that they were princesses. It was pathetic. Then, he noted something interesting. Potter, of all people, had just ran to the girl, hurried and distressed. After a few short words from him, he smiled and kissed her cheek. Why, who else would Potter be affectionate to if not the annoyance known as the Head Girl, Lily Evans.
A dark smirk crossed his features as he moved through the room, silent and deadly like a snake sneaking up on its prey. Finally come to your senses and leave that little redhead of yours? he began to taunt, dark Slytherin smirk still in place. He glanced at Potter and sneered, Or perhaps you just didn’t allow your little pet to come; trying to protect her, eh, Potter? he spat his name out as if it was unworthy of being said by someone such as him, not even mentioning the fact that he already knew it was Lily Evans and not just some pathetic girl Potter had managed to pick up.
Leroy didn’t even bother taking out his wand, nor his hands out of his pockets. If not for the exchanging of glares, one would have thought he was a friend, just coming to catch up. However, despite the fact that he didn’t have his wand out didn’t mean he wasn’t prepared. Leroy was ready to place up a shield at any time. After all, with a hot-head like Potter, who knew what he was doing to do.
Terribly sorry to say, but that’s just not going to happen. though his tone said the exact opposite, almost mocking them and their failed attempt to hide Lily Evans’ identity.

----------------------------- Lily was quiet as she took another sip of her drink. She was still marveling at the fact that it was pumpkin juice and not spiked. Well yet anyways but knowing the Slytherins they would get their hands on it sooner or later. She took a deep breath, sending out a silent prayer to Merlin. She remembered how scared she was when she had finally broke the news to her parents. Dumbledore had died and now the wizarding world was thrown into utter chaos. They wanted her to stay home this year. They were insisting that they could hide her well but Lily protested. This was her last year and she wanted to make the best of it. The best that she could while being underneath the new rule. She slowly continued to walk around managing a small smile every now and then at the students. Her housemates. About half of them were in the same boat as Lily. Her emerald eyes swept the hall again for James. She was now wishing she would have just waited in the common room. She had to do SOMETHING at least. She was on edge and the atmosphere of the hall was certainly not helping at all. She gently ran a hand through her hair, a habit that was a bit difficult to break.
Her ears pricked forward at the sound of her name. She breathed out a sigh of relief as she turned, grateful. The grateful look vanished quickly as she cringed a bit at his words. Why would she just listen to her rational side for once? “S-sorry,” Her voice was extra soft. “I just could not stay in the common room any longer. I would go crazy. Please don’t be mad at me.” After two months the thought was a concept that she was trying to get out of her mind. James would not be the one to hurt her yet here she was acting like he would. She found herself quickly eying her surroundings, making a note of escape routes just in case. Lily breathed out another sigh as she returned his kiss. “Thank you. I am sorry I didn’t wait for you.” There was a worried look in her eyes as she spoke. She was terrified she might be stepping on thin ice with him. Lily, you are being ridiculous, she mentally told herself. This is James Potter. He promised he wouldn’t hurt you. She leaned up against him sighing. The anger a few seconds ago had melted. She felt safe. Merlin she felt more than safer with him. She didn’t want this moment to end.
As her eyes were closing a voice spoke out, sending chills down her spine. One of the people that she dreaded to see. She let out a soft groan as she slowly opened them. Emerald eyes glittered like cold stones at the Slytherins. “Selwyn why don’t you just go and leave us alone,” She hadn’t told James about their encounter in the forest. He would probably find it too amusing that the one person who played by the rules had somehow found herself in the place where it was forbidden. Of course that didn’t stop many Hogwarts students from trying. There was another reason why she had not told him about it. She knew he would flip out and started yelling. She twitched a bit at his words. “I already told you for the last time I am NOT a pet!” She hissed at him her eyes flashing. “I already told you I’m a human being. A human with feelings unlike you!” Lily had a strong feeling of dejavu. Then again she had already done this with him a few months later. “Aren’t you supposed to be going around and torture other people instead of wasting your time with me?” She bit down on the inside of her cheeks. His words had still cut a knife through her skin. Some things never change, Lily thought with a small sigh. Her eyes held a worried look.
She looked suspiciously at him as a thought came to her mind. “…How did you know it was me anyways Selwyn?” Lily inquired frowning. They had gone through the lengths to make sure that she wasn’t found. One of the most painful things they had done was color her hair. Lily wasn’t an idiot. She knew that she would stand out in the crowd. That was one of the things about her. Her red hair was most distinguished from everyone. The other unique thing about her was her eyes. She cringed at the question after she asked it. She knew that everyone would think it was her. With the way James was going on about her. Lily sighed a bit as she leaned up against him. She scowled heavily at him, wanting nothing better to do than to turn and walk away from him. Unfortunally that was not possible. “Never mind.” She added hastily. “I knew that was a completely stupid question from the start.” [/size] Tagged. Leia and Jazz Words.838 Notes. Post by JAMES IGNOTUS POTTER on Mar 3, 2013 18:44:12 GMT
It was a mark of how vulnerable Lily felt these days that she blanched at James' words. The slight anger that he had felt (albeit anger stemmed from fear) quickly dissipated as he saw how worried she was about disappointing him. He wished she wouldn't be. He loved that she was fiery and independent but these days he saw that side of her fade away all too often. He shook his head, the expression on his face gently reassuring. "It's okay. Lily come on, you know I'm just worried about you, that's all." He didn't say it, but the look on his face clearly displayed that he knew she was worried that he might suddenly flip out and hurt her and that that was a stupid thing to think. He loved her and would rather die than even see her hurt let alone be the one hurting her. But he understood why she would be worried and so he would do all he could do to make her feel safe around him. Thankfully he saw her relax; it seemed like she came to the conclusion that he wasn't going to hurt her by herself and he let out a happy sigh, squeezing her hand as she leaned against him. For a brief moment, he felt content.
But that wasn't going to last very long. Just as soon as the happy feeling arrived it disappeared at the sound of a cold, hard, sneering voice and James automatically raised his wand a bit. He was just as on edge as everybody else, just as paranoid and ready to fight. He knew that tonight wasn't going to go smoothly but he had expected a few more moments of peace than they had managed. His face contorted into a hard look as his eyes fell on the speaker. Leroy Selwyn. One of the more dangerous Slytherins that was for sure but one that James had never really seen as an opponent. Though that was probably because of his pureblood status and the fact that Dumbledore had been headmaster. Now was a different kettle of fish entirely.
His heart practically stopped beating at the mention of Lily and straight away James knew that he wasn't going to get away with this. He should have hidden her away in the room of requirement and not allowed her to come at all. Everybody knew that where James potter was, Lily Evans surely had to be nearby too. He had counted on the fact that perhaps Lily wouldn't be so much of a target tonight; there were, and he hated to think it, weaker people to pick off. But by the sounds of the words Lily was spitting back at the Slytherin, these two had, had a run-in already this term and that did not bode well. He glared at the other male, letting Lily speak because she was more than capable of standing up for herself and he knew the Slytherin would hate it more to be taunted by a mere mudblood.
But Lily's words made him start. He moved away from her just a bit so as to keep a good eye and, more importantly, aim on Selwyn. "What!?" He practically yelped, looking between the two of them and also internally cursing Lily for completely giving the game away. "Did-did you two... Speak recently?" He used 'speak' because he couldn't bear to think that anything worse than that had happened especially since Lily hadn’t told him about it. And there was no point trying to pretend that Lily wasn’t actually Lily anymore, it was just foolish when they had both made it evidently clear and the Slytherin had jumped to the conclusion straight from the start. Perhaps if they’d run into a dimmer Slytherin then they’d have been okay; Leroy was probably the worst person to bump into. Though of course he had actually spied them and come over and that thought alone sent an involuntary shudder down James’ spine.
"Yes I am going to protect her so you can get lost, Selwyn." He said the other's name with the same amount of venom. "What do you want?" He snapped, quickly taking over where Lily had left off. "Nothing good I presume. So either get lost or I will make you." Usually James wasn't so quick to fight but he wasn't going to hang around tonight. He had to eliminate as much of the opposition as possible and if Selwyn was going to stand there and threaten them both then there was no way James was going to take it, not with what was about to happen tonight. He shifted ever so slightly into a fighting stance and also so that he was standing further forward than Lily. His wand raised and ready.

SOMETIMES I FIND IT HARD• to believe there's someone else who could be •JUST AS MESSED UP AS ME He watched their reactions, observing them openly, dark eyes glittering with dark promises. He thought it obvious before, but their reactions were icing on the cake, so to speak. Of course, the only reason he went there was because he knew it would be Evans and Potter, but he had been partially hoping that the two would provide some better entertainment. He would have enjoyed to toy with them and their little delusional ways that no one would notice Potter was fawning over this brunette and not Evans. He found it sad that they had thought it would work. The mocking tone with which he spoke and the slightly mocking smirk on his face said it all. However, though he had knew it beforehand – who else would Potter greet so sickeningly lovingly – he knew that others would soon figure it out. Others such as him, purebloods that did not have the label of blood traitor. He smirked at Evans, clearly amused by her reactions. She hadn’t changed, it was, after all, the same reaction she had the first time he called her a pet. You sure about that? After all, pets have owners, do they not? he calmly retaliated, noticing that Potter had raised his wand slightly.
At her next words, Leroy smirked. Of course, judging by Potter’s expression, he hadn’t known about their little…escapade in the Forbidden Forest. Now, now, pet, he said mockingly, a smirk rising to his features, you should know by now, I can’t get enough of you. of course, he only said this to get on Potter’s nerves. Of course, he would never suspect Evans would do anything as he placed the girl on a pedestal, however, he was fairly certain Potter would be riled up by the fact it was him, a Slytherin, and that was what he was hoping on. He chuckled, his dark, deep chuckle, at Potter’s surprised shout. So his suspicions were correct, which he figured as Gryffindors wore their hearts on their sleeves. It was sickening really, but Leroy couldn’t complain as more than once, he grabbed the heart and shattered it. Now, his aim was on the lovely couple of Potter and Evans. Leory smirked at Potter, the unspoken words in his gaze and expression, ‘I know what you don’t’. You mean Evans, he sneered the name, his eyes flickering between the wizard and witch in front of him, never told you?
His gaze flickered over to the muggleborn Gryffindor, whose hair was temporarily – as he couldn’t see her keeping her hair brown, she was far too proud for that – dyed brown, a glint in his eyes. Of course, this just made it all the better. He rolled his eyes at Evans, as if she were merely a child asking a silly question. And here I thought you were supposed to be intelligent. he sneered. I suppose it was Potter’s idea? Fitting as he was the one who ruined it. he continued, as if stating something in passing. Of course, he had no qualms about placing the blame on Potter, after all, he was the reason Leroy had figured out it was Evans and not some random girl. There’s also the fact of your reaction, witch. You basically told me yourself, he continued on, with a sigh he made sure both would hear. With that sigh, he wanted them to know he thought it completely obvious and they were just slow. It was an exasperated sigh that a tutor would give a student if they simply did not understand what they were trying to teach. Simply out, with that sigh, he was calling them idiots.
Then you should have never asked, idiotic little girl, he repeated the words from the Forbidden Forest purposefully, a wicked smirk on his face. He turned towards Potter, who raised his wand against him and rolled his eyes. Eager to fight, eh, Potter? You’re only drawing attention to yourself, and your little…pet here. he smirked maliciously. No manners. he shook his head, tsk-ing at the couple, as if he were truly disappointed in their lack of manners. Oh how he enjoyed toying with people. Then again, I shouldn’t be too surprised, considering who you are. he gave them a look of disdain, as if they were the dirt on his shoes before smirking once more, his eyes flashing at Potter’s threat. It was far too easy to goad them. You can’t protect her forever, Potter. As seen by our little…escapade, right, pet? he smirked once more, a dark glint in his dark eyes. Then, Leroy chuckled his dark, deep chuckle, before smirking at Potter. You make me? Now I see where you get it from, pet. he shook his head, dark amusement evident in his eyes.
Go ahead and try Potter. I dare you. he sneered, ready to throw up a shield charm at any moment. Oh yes, he was rather glad he ended up coming after all.
