It was surprising how much Maddy managed to fit into one day. She had managed to knock off a rather large portion of her homework (due in the not so near future) in only a few hours. She still vividly recalled the faces of her roommates as she had settled down with the books she needed for the homework. they had gotten rather used to her study habits, even though they didn't approve all that much at times. Although, a majority of her roommates would leave all of their homework to the last minute at times. That is, unless they got fed up with Maddy occasionally nagging them and decided to just get it over with. Her roommates had abandoned their dormitory rather rapidly when Maddy had settled down on her bed with her quill and parchment. It was as if her studying was some type of disease to them at times.
Maddy had given up when her last bit of focus (and patience) with her homework had faded. She had packed her things back up (a signal to her roommates that it was safe to return) and simply checked for her potion. Of course, she had found it was her last dose. It didn't matter that it was the same day that she picked it up from Madame Pomfrey every week. Sometimes she just managed to get so caught up in things that she simply forgot about them until they were staring her straight in the face. Maddy had simply sighed and downed the last dose of the bitter tasting potion before settling down once more and writing the quick weekly letter to her parents. Of course she included her recent grades, as well as how her sister was doing (from an older sister's perspective).
Maddy gathered her things up, placing a bit of parchment and spare quills in her bag, along with her letter before heading back down to the hospital wing. It was a bit funny how much time she managed to spend down there. More than her fair share, she was sure. The same with her time at St. Mungo's when she was younger. You could practically say that she was on a first name basis with the school nurse. That was definitely saying quite a bit about her time spent down there. It didn't even matter that she was rarely down there for any injuries or diseases. It was simply the fact that being down there once a weak for seven years gave you quite a time to make enough small talk to get to know someone, at least a little bit.
When Maddy arrived at the hospital wing it had been scarcely occupied, so she had made it to Madame Pomfrey's office without drawing much attention to herself. She greeted the nurse cheerfully and received her potion, exchanging a bit of conversation before she was on her way down to dinner, her bag slung over her shoulder. Maddy had made her way over to the table in the Great Hall that was inhabited by the Gryffindors without hesitation. Her eyes flickered about the room only briefly as she walked over to join her friends. Maddy enjoyed the mindless chatter that flitted between them as they enjoyed the meal prepared by the house elves. It was a nice change from almost constantly having to be looking over your shoulder. She had always felt at home with her fellow Gryffindors.
Madeleine McKinnon had almost seemed a bit forlorn when the meal came to a close and they headed off in their separate directions for the remains of the day. Nonetheless, Maddy had departed from the Great Hall with a broad smile spread consistently across her face. It was greatly lightening to finally have a bit of calm, typical conversation. It didn't matter that she talked to them daily, and they had these conversations at almost every meal. Sometimes it was just like a little get away, and she was sure at least a few of them felt the same way. Maddy turned gracefully and headed up towards the owlery in the same fashion that she had entered the Great Hall. Her bag containing the letter, and her medicine (the two most important things) slung over her shoulder, along with her wand tucked into her pocket.
Maddy's flats made a soft tapping noise as she reached the stair case that the owlery was perched on top of and began to climb the stairs. It wasn't that hard of a climb for her, having kept quite fit over the years, despite not being on a Quidditch team (which her parents would have thrown a fit over). Granted the climb was rather long, and just a bit steep. It was quite a wonder, with an environment like this, her parents had allowed her to go off to Hogwarts. It was something that her mother would had fretted over constantly, if she had been back to Hogwarts recently. It would have almost been the same as it had been before Maddy had left for Hogwarts.
Maddy smiled to herself and shook her head as she reached the owlery, finally. So many things had changed since she had come to Hogwarts. Her parents had finally lightened up on the over protectiveness (though only a bit) and Maddy had grown much more independent. The young witch padded softly into the owlery, which was inhabited by a majority of the owls at the school, including her own. Her owl was surely one of the absolute sweetest owls out here, a Snowy Owl. She had been not so uniquely named Snowflake by a young Maddy, who had only been in her first year at the time. Her parents or rather her mother) had insisted on getting her one of the nicest owls. This was mostly so she wouldn't peck at Maddy, who still had a bit of a tendency to forget her potions when not reminded and injured easily.
The teenage witch smiled at the familiar own, cooing softly to the bird in an affectionate manner as Snowflake rubbed her head against the girl's hand. Maddy didn't even take notice of the boy until she reached for her bag in order to get something to held hold her letter to the owl's leg. She blinked at the teenage boy, who appeared to be quite engrossed in writing some sort of letter. it was surprising how he hadn't noticed her yet. Of course, Maddy hadn't noticed him at first, either, so she really couldn't judge anything about that.
"Hello there!" Maddy said, more or less in an attempt to draw the boy's attention to her and alert him to her presence. She hope she didn't startle him. There was nothing else that she hated more than being taken by surprise, after all. "Anyway, I'm sorry for disturbing you." She added, in a tone quite a bit louder than when she had first spoken. Maddy didn't quite recognize him, though he did look quite familiar to her. She probably did know him and would, in fact recall his name in mere moments. It was a wonder how many things got jumbled up in her mind.
"Have I seen you around before, perhaps? You look quite familiar." Maddy added, smiling slightly when she realized that she felt a bit like she had managed to just keep rambling on, stealing the conversation away. "Anyway, I'm sorry for rambling on, as well. I'm Maddy McKinnon." She stated, finishing and turning slightly to stroke Snowflake's head lightly and feed the owl a treat. Apparently she had an undiscovered habit of talking too much as well. Must have been the orange juice she had been drinking earlier. It might not have been a plausible explanation, but it was still and explanation. It might have been a bit funny to her, but she wouldn't put it past the wizard before her to think that she was just a little bit crazy.

Maddy noticed when the boy took notice of her, his head having snapped up, almost in surprise of finding her here. It was possible, after all, she hadn't really made enough noise to draw attention to herself prior to speaking. Maddy took note of him as he did the same with her, still trying to place him. She noticed his longer hair, as well as his height, which meant that he pretty much towered over her. His name illuded her, still, though. It almost made her feel bad for not having recognized him. The fact made it seem to her almost as if she paid know attention to anyone outside of her fellow Gryffindors. In her thoughts, though, it didn't matter if his name was on the very tip of her tongue, the fact still made her feel rather terrible.
The teenage witch smiled slightly when the warlock before her seemed to notice that he hadn't spoken yet. However, her smile widened into a grin at the fact that the owl had almost seemingly reprimanded him with a hoot. The little thing was perched on his knee and rather adorable. Maddy let out a laugh, however, when Snowflake nudged her impatiently, almost glaring at the other owl for drawing Maddy's attention away. The girl stroked her snowy white owl's head in order to provide some sort of comfort to the slightly insecure owl. The poor creature liked to have all of her owner's attention focused on her. As an apology Maddy fished out another owl treat and held it out for the bird to take before turning back to the boy.
She heard him speak, for the first time and grinned back cheerfully when he smiled up at her. Maddy was quite happy that it was no problem for him that she had interrupted his writing. Maddy herself wouldn't have been all that impressed if someone had interrupted her own writing, especially when she was in the middle of a thought. Somethings, after all, had to be ranked of greater importance. Still, Maddy was relieved that he wasn't upset with her interruption.
Maddy almost laughed when the warlock who had been previously sitting before her rose to his feet. Yeah, he definitely towered over her. There could have very well been a foot between them in their height difference. The young witch also noted that he had begun talking again, contrary to his previous silence. She was a bit relieved when he said that he remembered her. After all, surely if he remembered her it would aid her in recalling him quite a bit better than she did at this point.
Madeleine McKinnon nodded and grinned in recognition when he said that they were in both Charms and Herbology together. That fact helped her quite a bit, as she gradually recalled him sitting a few rows away in those classes. The teenager nodded as he also stated that she might have seen him playing Quidditch as well. Finally, at the end of his response he stated that his name was Benjamin Bradley. She remembered him now, quite well, in fact, since she played rather good attention to Quidditch. The girl recognized him as a fellow seventh year, though he was a Ravenclaw, and a beater for his house's team.
Maddy turned away once again in order to dig her letter out of her bag, easily rolling it up and grabbing the bit of twine from her bag. She tied the letter carefully tied the letter to Snowflake and sent the large white owl of with orders to go to her family's home and deliver the letter to her parents. Maddy gave the owl one last loving stroke of her head before stepping back to allow the owl a bit of room to leave. She then watched Snowflake take off into the night, a stark contrast to it's pitch black color as she went about her business. Madeleine turned back to Ben as Snowflake faded out of her line of vision.
The girl grinned and laughed merrily when Ben commented that he liked her shirt. Maddy shook her head slightly, still smiling broadly, "Thanks. Mum doesn't even know where a get my sense of style with clothes like these." The grin in Maddy's voice matched the one that shown on her face. 'She always claims it isn't her, though. Quite vehemently, in fact." Madeleine added, still chuckling lightly and shaking her head at the memory of her mother's claims. They had always been in humor though, never actually harsh or anything. Plus, her mother wasn't one to talk, with her crazy socks, slippers, and pajamas.
Maddy grinned an pushed a pesky strand of her long blond hair back behind her ear. The teenage witch listened intently as Ben asked her what had brought her up here on such a cold night. It didn't take all that much to come to her response to his question. "Well, my parents like me to send them little weekly updates and such." She replied, giving a shrug and a slight wave of her hand as an addition to her response before speaking again, "My younger sister doesn't say as much to them about herself as I might share. Of course, it does go both ways." Maddy added, her voice turning to a bit of a musing tone by her last statement.
"Anyway, what have you been up to? Up here and everything else?" Maddy queried, punctuating her question with a bit of a flourish of her hand. She wasn't at all trying to force him to tell her things that he didn't wish to share. However, Maddy posed her question as just a bit more all encompassing than his previous question had been. Maddy didn't want to appear to be trying to invade his privacy, through it all.
