She dreamed that she was back at home with her family. They were sitting in the family room, happy and content with each other. Allison and Kyle were talking about small little things. Megan was helping her thirteen year old brother with his essay. There was no magic in her family in this dream. They all were normal and blissfully aware of the happenings of the wizarding world. A bang interrupted her thoughts as she snapped her head. Richard looked confused as Kyle sprang up, pulling out a long wooden stick. She blinked several times before suddenly remembering that they were halfbloods. The front door burst open and a swarm of Death Eaters entered the room. Megan had screamed when her worst nightmare, Evan, entered the room. He had smiled at her and raised his wand…
A small thud and a gasp woke her up. Megan had fallen onto the floor, her bed sheets sliding off with her. She took a deep shaking breath, trying to calm herself down. The nightmare was always the same. They seemed like a perfectly happy family. They had no idea that there was really magic. But at the last minute she seemed to remember the existence of witches and wizards. A small shudder went through her body as she slowly rose to her feet. Evan Rosier. Ever since their encounter, during which he had claimed her as his own, she couldn’t get him out of her mind. She was still terrified of being his. Being his to do what he wanted, when he wanted. When she was sure that she was calmed, the black haired girl glanced down at the silver bracelet that she wore on her left wrist. It was a mark singling the fact that she was now owned. As a halfblood Megan had a bit more rights than her muggleborn friends. She could decide for herself whether or not she wanted to be claimed. But, unfortunally, someone had made that decision for her.
Someone that had made her life a living hell ever since they had first seen each other in the hallways. He was always stalking her. She bit down on her lower lip as she got into the shower. Megan had failed to tell her friends that her stalker had claimed her. Yes, that would go down all too well. She could see the looks on the boys’ faces. The murderous looks as they hatched their plans. Katherine would go straight to Evan and berate him despite Megan’s pleas not to. And Alexis….Well there was no telling what her red haired friend would do to him. They were close like sisters. Able to tell the other everything. It was the same way with Katherine. Twenty minutes later Megan was out of the shower, dressed, and made her way down to the Great Hall. It was a Saturday and a few people were mingling. No purebloods much to Megan’s relief. A conversation caught her ears and she perked up. The second visit to Hogsmeade was this weekend! Maybe that’s what she needed was a weekend alone with her friends. A weekend just by herself. After her early breakfast was finished she quickly headed back to the Ravenclaw Tower. Back up the stairs to the fifth year girls’ dormitories where she grabbed a piece of parchment and a quill. She had scribbled that she was heading to Hogsmeade for anyone that wanted to join her later that day.
The fifteen year old girl placed a note where they would see it and grabbed her cloak before heading back out. She refused to obey the new rules, which stated that she must see her new owner for permission to visit the village. As if I would tell him that! Megan silently huffed. In the early morning hours for a Saturday the hallways were pretty empty. She was a bit nervous. Even more so because of that blasted nightmare. The recurring nightmare. She shuddered again as she silently prayed that it was all just a dream. Even though it felt so real! Maybe it was because that she was worried as hell about her family. Especially her Hufflepuff brother. Nathan. The purebloods would tear him in half! Her black eyes held a hint of worry as she joined the small crowd that gathered around the door. Ten minutes later she was strolling along the cobblestones of the village, relaxing with every step. A light breeze ruffled through her hair as she was starting to become lost in thought. She soon entered The Three Broomsticks and made her way to the counter, asking for one butterbeer. While waiting for her drink she glanced around. Good. Her corner seat was still available. It was still early but the pub would soon buzz with students and teachers alike. She took her drink with a soft thank you as she made her way to her seat. She reached in her bag and pulled out a book filled with muggle mysteries. Megan soon become lost in the book’s world, not noticing that the door had opened again.

Megan took another sip of her butterbeer, her eyes on the book. It was a muggle book of course due to her mother. A muggle mystery book. She found it amusing that half of the stuff in those darn books were true to a point. They should really start opening their minds, she thought to herself idly, flipping over to the next page. Her ears pricked forward as she heard her own name being shouted. For a moment her heart began to beat wildly. She thought it was Evan coming for her. She thought he was going to humiliate her in front of their peers. Megan glanced around wildly for an escape route when the shout become suddenly familiar. More friendly. More energetic. The Ravenclaw girl had to laugh at herself, trying to calm down. “LEXI!” She shouted back grinning. She knew she would get an ear full as Alexis loathed that nickname. She let out a small shriek as she was tackled. To her horror she felt tears in her eyes as she tightly gripped her best friend. No wait, scratch that. Her sister. She was one of the few years in her year that Megan could trust. The other one was Katherine of course. “I take it you got my note then?” She asked, smirking as she marked her place in the book and closed it. Pet Cemetery was a pretty darn good book, she thought as she put it in her bag.
She felt her smile turning into a small frown at her question. She was no longer laughing. Megan felt extremely nervous. “Lex. I…have something to tell you. Promise me that you won’t go around killing people.” Especially if it meant my life on the line, she thought silently. It was something that she would never say out loud. Her black eyes held a worried look as she scanned the small pub that was popular among the Hogwarts students and teachers. Good. He wasn’t there. It was a perfect opportunity to tell Alexis what had happened. “Actually I was hiding Lex. But not from you. Remember a few weeks ago when I had got out and walked out in the middle of dinner?” She paused, glancing at her friend. Alexis was the type of girl that Megan trusted with her secrets. She knew that the other one would not go around telling people. She took a deep shaking breath. “Well, for some reason or another I was in the dungeons and was reading my Charms book. And then Evan. Evan Rosier? H-He showed up and….” Her voice trailed off as she recalled the events. The memories of the torture, being under the torture curse. The hexes.
“The boys don’t even know.” She finished, holding up her arm with the silver bracelet that was on her wrist. “You know how bad they can get especially Kevin. Katherine I’m terrified to tell. I know she would walk straight up to him and shout him down. It could get me killed down the line. I know you would not tell. I’m begging you to keep this.” There was another thing about the fifteen year old girl. She rarely, if ever, pleaded or begged unless it was something of major importance. If it had involved life or death or her family. She sighed her shoulders slumped forward a bit. “I don’t need him to come torturing me because one of my friends yelled at him. As selfish as that sounds and I’m one of the least selfish girls there is!” Her voice was rising a bit. It was evidence to her slowly growing hysteria. Megan took a deep shaking breath trying to calm down again. It seemed these days she was slowly growing to her breaking point. It had been a complete and utter nightmare. “Please please promise me you wouldn’t tell no one. The teachers won’t do a single thing anyways. They’re bound to report trouble makers to the Headmaster.”
Tears spring up in her eyes. She ran a hand through her hair as a somewhat awkward silence spread between the girls. She took another sip of her drink, again, glancing around. Megan had made it a point to keep a close watch on her surroundings. It was something that she was slowly getting better at but it still needed some work at least. It was her that had broken the silence. “I-I’m sorry for freaking out on you like that.” Megan commented at least shivering a bit. “I was just….it’s been such a few weeks already and I hate to see what this will bring. I’m scared. I’m close to my breaking point every day. Nightmares and being worried about my family as well as my brother Richard.” It was the first time that Megan was almost that close to breaking out in tears in public. She had been trying to work around that but so far it was not doing good as it was the evidence. “Enough about me of course. Did you manage to stay out of trouble for the rest of the summer?” She asked with a tiny smirk that had somehow manage to lift her spirits a bit.

This is exactly what Megan needed truth be told. She needed a day away from Hogwarts. A day away from the one person that planned to cause nothing but misery in her life. The one person that she was basically forced to call ‘Master’. To be honest she flat out refused to bend down to Evan. A small shudder ran through her spine as she shook her head. Let’s not think that right now, a voice pleaded inside her mind. Try and focus on something more positive. The black haired girl gazed up at her childhood friend. From the moment the group had met in the train ride there was no doubt they would be close. A lot of people weren’t that surprise to see them talking and laughing five years later. She took another sip of her drink, still lost in thought. They had been through thick and thin. Nowadays it was hard to find people to stick with you when things like that happened. The thought of Kevin entered her mind and she blushed faintly. They had reconciled after rumors sprang up they were dating. Boy Katherine was furious with them both for keeping the information from her. It did took her a while to realize that they were only friends.
She let out a snort as she lightly shoved the other girl. “You know what I mean. Sometimes they get replaced. Especially with Katherine and two of the other girls. You know it’s downright impossible to leave stuff lying down without Elizabeth freaking out.” Megan shook her head. The other fifth year girl, Elizabeth, was described by others as a complete neat freak. She would go all over if there was even dust on the ground. “And I thought I had it bad. Least mum’s not like that. Oh, they all send their love.” She added as an afterthought. Megan was completely stupid to forget a request as simple as that! Of course she had a lot of things that were going through in her life lately. She was even slipping up and forgetting her homework. Thanks to Alexis and Katherine, Megan was slowly getting back on track. She could not afford to slip up this year. Their fifth year was something that Megan had planned to ace all of her exams. She was even taking extra notes and revising them. That was something about Megan. The black haired girl wanted to be perfect in everything that she does. Of course she had learned that no one could be perfect and that her parents would still love her no matter what. Still, it was a frightening thought that entered into her mind every now and then. What if she failed the exams?
Megan continued to watch the other girl carefully as she told her about the claiming and the torture. She had learned something that day ironically enough. Evan was someone who she wouldn’t cross in a bad temper. She now tried to avoid him at any costs. She gently squeezed her hand, her eyes holding a worried look. The one thing that Megan hated was feeling helpless. She couldn’t do a single thing without being exposed now. She was terrified to go to the teachers. She did not know who to trust and who not to. A small sigh of relief escaped her lips as she stated that she won’t tell. Now she did feel a bit better. Megan knew she would not be able to keep the secret from her friends any longer. Sooner or later she would end up cracking. A faint blush stained her cheeks as she looked around at the pub for the first time since her mini outburst. A couple of them were staring at the two girls. Some were curious while others were glaring. Megan knew what those glares meant. The ‘keep your voice down you are interrupting my own personal problems!’ glare. She sighed as she shook her head. “I know. I’m still trying to come to terms with everything. I’m just…..scared out of my mind. I don’t know what to do and if I say anything he’ll probably walk into my home!”
That was her worst nightmare. Megan could not imagine that things in the wizarding world would be this bad. This bad that she was starting to have nightmares of her family’s death. Nightmares of Evan and his haunting eyes. She took a deep shaking breath as she tried to clear her thoughts from her mind. She had to think of something else before she started to hyperventilate. The corners of her lips twitched upwards into a small smile at her longtime friend. “I’m surprise I haven’t cracked before myself with everything going on. Although my worst fears are cracking in the middle of exam week. And we all should know the pressures soon enough.” The one question that she feared answering was brought out. She glanced around again. The students were talking among themselves again. It was the perfect opportunity to finally break free. “I’m at my home with my family. Helping Richard with his homework. It seems normal enough. We forgot that we were magic.” Megan blushed as she was talking like a five year old. “I mean…half blood. All of a sudden death eaters are storming the home. My dad pulls out his wand and…and….Evan shows up killing everyone. I wake up screaming into the night.” She shuddered as she hastily blinked a few tears that were threatening to fall.
There was no doubt that she felt better for finally telling someone. She felt like a weight has been lifted off her shoulders. She shook her head at her foolishness. Megan laughed at her best friend. “Of course. Trouble IS your middle name after all. Yours and Ethan’s!” She was glad to be joking and laughing. She quirked an eyebrow as she listened. “You and tans are something I won’t quite understand. I think we all know how you are in the winter time!” She paused here to answer her question. “It wasn’t that bad actually. We’re still going to therapy because dad reckons we need it. I think he’s still a bit miffed that he went with mum but they stopped the worst of the fights. I wouldn’t know what I would have done if they split up.” Megan sighed.

The door opened as a group of students walked in, talking and laughing. Megan could not help but to twitch every time. She nervously looked at them just in case. Just in case Evan was trying to watch her. She let out a soft groan as she shook her head. Her imagination was running completely wild. It steamed from fear than anything else. That was her life lately, nothing but fear. She sighed softy. “I do not know what to do anymore Alexis. I am scared. I think my paranoia is leaking through. I mean, I’m constantly looking over my shoulder. Twitching. This fear is…eating me inside.” She stopped talking for a moment to control herself. The black haired girl took a deep shaking breath. She was doing all she could to try to calm herself down. She hastily blinked away tears as she took another sip of her drink and started coughing. Alright, maybe that was a bit too quick, she thought to herself as soon as she calmed down. She needed to get her emotions under check and fast. It will kill her one of these days. I wonder how they do it, she mused silently to herself. Turning off emotions like that. She knew a few Slytherins that did that. Then again they probably have been taught that since they were old enough to start their ‘training’.
Megan nodded smiling a bit. Thanks to the other girl, she knew a few phrases in French. Alexis was known for constantly switching back and forth between the two languages. “I will.” She answered. “After Hogsmeade I was thinking of sending them a letter updating them. I haven’t told my parents about Evan claiming me. I’m too scared to see my dad’s reaction now that I think about it. You know how…over protective he can get.” She winced at the image. Megan knew that Kyle would go completely ballistic. She let out a snort. “You saw how he questioned Ethan and Kevin like crazy when we finally got together at my house. I think they were scared of him.” That was a moment in which she will forever remember. One of the moments that Ethan looked like he had the fear of god in him. She took another sip of her drink. As soon as she put the bottle down she carefully ran a finger over the bracelet. It was either that or the collar and Megan instantly balked at that. A small sigh escaped from her lips as she took a glance at her best friend. She had already told her the number one reason why she had decided to keep it a secret from them.
She could only imagine the look on the boys’ faces. Megan shook her head at her words. “You know that they have access to our personal records ‘Lex. Just one word and the Headmaster will give them everything. Including where we live and everything. I can’t…I can’t let that happen. I have been thinking about running away.” She took a deep shaking breath before continuing. “But I know I can’t do that. I can’t leave you guys behind.” Megan bit down on her lower lip. “No matter what I do or where I go I’ll always be tracked down by this thing.” She held up the bracelet. She lowered her hand down and laughed softly, still worried. “I think dad can still try to talk down Evan. Then again we know what he’s capable of. Just look at all the things he had done so far. Threatening notes. Stalking.” Megan was feeling better than she had been in a long time. She was now able to tell Alexis everything instead of bottling it up inside of her. “Of course my imagination can sometimes run wild. I still would like to be prepared just in case something happens. And you know how much I worry. Even if it’s the smallest of things I tend to worry about even more.”
The fifth year sighed softly, knowing this speech would be coming sooner or later. One look at Alexis and Megan ended up feeling guilty at her thoughts. She slowly reached out and laid a gentle hand on her arm. “I promise. You know I will.” Really, Megan could never have asked for a more better group of friends than the ones she had now. They looked out for one another, been through thick and thin. The least she could do was to obey her friend’s orders. She laid her head on Alexis’s shoulder for a few minutes before straightening up. “I’m a big girl now Lexi. You know I can take care of myself. But I promise not to leave without you or Katherine.” Katherine. Damn it, she thought as she winced a bit. The other girl would be furious. And speaking of being furious….Megan winced again at her outburst. She didn’t know what she had said but she was clearly angry when Megan had compared her to Ethan. “S-sorry,” Her voice was small. “It won’t happen again.” She stopped herself from shrinking back. For a horrible moment she actually saw Evan during that outburst. That was when she decided on something. “I think I need help Alexis. It’s gotten to the point where I fear he would jump out from anywhere. Why did it have to be him?” She moaned softly.
She snorted at her. “Oh please you look like you’re glowing when you’re surrounded by the snow!” Her eyes sparkled at her. “Once winter’s done I can see you running to the nearest tanning bed and I’m sure you won’t be coming out any time soon!” She snorted. Her expression softened as she nodded. “I know. It helps when we have our late night talks.” She grinned. Her expression completely changed at the mention of the mystery dance. She nodded. “Either way I’m probably not going unless I’m forced to. I don’t like the thought of it being my last night on Earth. I especially don’t like the thought of being the first to die. I’m only fifteen. I still have a lot going on for me despite what has happened so far.”
