SOMETIMES I FIND IT HARD• to believe there's someone else who could be •JUST AS MESSED UP AS ME The seventh year Slytherin glanced at the pathetic, whimpering being at his feet and sneered. Really, he couldn’t think of anything more disgusting. Currently, the fifth year was curled up in a ball, probably trying to get rid of the pain. Leroy wasn’t stupid enough to use any of the unforgivables, but he did know his dark magic. He had plenty of access to those types of books in his family library. It was enough to make the fifth year at his feet wish he used the cruciatus curse. With a slight smirk at the pathetic boy at his feet, Leroy turned and just walked out of the unused classroom. He had used a memory charm earlier, and the boy was too immersed in his pain to notice him afterwards. A few minutes earlier and the pathetic excuse for a wizard was unconscious at his feet.
Really, it was so pathetic that it was sickening. Leroy had learned about the cruciatus curse and its pain when he was young. Whenever he misbehaved or did something wrong, his father would curse him until he felt the eldest Selwyn child had learned his lesson. Of course, his tolerance for pain grew, but it helped with his overall high tolerance of things.
The fifth year undoubtedly learned his lesson. He may not remember who cursed him to such extreme pain, but he would fear Leroy. Unconsciously of course, but that made it all the sweeter for the Selwyn heir. Of course, by the time he left the castle, no one would even suspect the silent Selwyn for such actions. He would be far enough from the classroom and it was nowhere near the dungeons. He had purposefully walked past the Great Hall, which was currently partially filled. More than likely, quite a few people saw him. Leroy continued on his trek, where? Even he didn’t know. He just went where his feet took him and felt somewhat relieved that it was out of the castle. Perhaps that was purposeful, but not anything else. The fact of the matter was, Leroy rather liked giving some trouble. A rule-breaker by personality. So, of course it was no surprise when his feet led him to the only place that was forbidden to all students.
The Forbidden Forest.
His wand was in his back pocket, easily within reach, but the Slytherin didn’t bother.
Hands in his front pockets, Leroy almost leisurely strolled into the Forbidden Forest, as if there was no threat in there whatsoever. Anyone would think him crazy, but he loved the challenge of it. The challenge of trying to out-do any of the dark creatures that lurked in such forests. The challenge to escape alive and possibly unscathed. Leroy may not have been a masochist, but he did love his challenges. And going into the Forbidden Forest without his wand drawn was just another one. But really, it was no problem. After all, he had mastered wandless magic at the end of his fifth year. With the push his father gave him, he really wouldn’t expect anything less. So, even if he didn’t have his wand, Leroy was far from helpless. Indeed, the Slytherin was probably even more dangerous, as there was no way to indicate whether or not he was going to curse you. At least, when he had a wand, people could see the wand first.
He traveled a few steps, but stopped. The sound of footsteps came nearing and he didn’t bother trying to look dangerous or even cautious. His stance was the same, hands in his pockets and a neutral expression. One would suspect that he was just out for an evening stroll in the Forbidden Forest. He was somewhat disappointed that he was running into another, but figured he’d always come back to go even further. After all, what was the challenge if you couldn’t best anything? The only indication he gave to the person – adult or student – that neared him was the tilting of his head. He tilted it to the side from where they were coming. Whoever they were, they were lucky, whether they knew it or not. He had already gotten his fill of cursing others. Really, he would most likely do so much worse in a place like the Forbidden Forest, rather than the unused classroom. Lucky indeed. he chuckled lightly to himself, as he waited for the person to reveal themselves. Or not. He didn’t care.

----------------------------- Lily didn’t feel like eating right now. Her stomach was in knots and has been for several days now. She could not believe how much had happened since the official start of the term. She still could not get her mind around the fact that new rules were in place. New laws. She poked at her plate while her friends threw her concerned looks. The red haired girl could not help but to wonder if people knew that she was claimed already. Claimed by the one man that she had loathed ever since first year. Ever since the encounter on the train ride. The one person who she always referred to as an arrogant bully and a prat. She lowered her fork, not hungry. She was not too worried about it. She would try to ask James the way to the kitchens for snacks later that night. Possibly after the patrols. She gazed around at the Great Hall. The Gryffindor had honestly not seen the hall this quiet for several years. Lily supposed it had to do with the current changes. Everyone was sitting together, huddled with a terrified expression on their faces. Some were throwing glances at the Slytherin table. The Slytherins, and all purebloods, were the only ones who were completely satisfied. She felt even sicker. The students were only in their first through third years! They shouldn’t be claimed or worried about it!
She threw a look at the teachers. McGonagall had a look of fury on her face. From day one she had told the class that she would do everything within her power to protect her house. The corners of her lips twitched into a small smile at the imagine in her head. Of McGonagall shouting the headmaster down. At the mere mention of the headmaster she frowned, now glancing his way. He was sitting comfortably in the Headmaster’s chair. That would have been occupied by Dumbledore had he not passed away. It angered her how relaxed and happy he looked. The seventeen year old girl felt eyes glancing her way. She shivered as she turned around and she saw about three Slytherins eying her. Possibly wondering if she was claimed or not. As much as she hated it, Lily pulled out the dog tags around her neck. It was a rule that everyone who was claimed wore them. They looked disappointed and glanced away. She let out a sigh of relief as she stuffed them underneath her robes. It was pathetic. Absolutely and utterly pathetic. As much as she wanted to she knew she couldn’t let them know exactly what she was thinking of.
Who knows what would happened to her then. She got up and walked out, whispers immediately broke out following her. She felt the Headmaster’s angry gaze at her back and she did not care. Lily knew she would get it later. What was the point of staying in the Hall until everyone finishes? The purebloods would take their time, making everyone nervous. Making them wonder what was going to happen next. She could not take the anxiety. Lily was ever so grateful that James was not like them. He still might be an annoying prat but she could see he was trying. Once she was out in the hallways she idly wondered what to do. The seventh year ran a hand through her hair as she started walking. Walking out of the castle and onto the grounds. She did not know why her legs wanted to take an evening stroll. When she was supposed to be back in the Great Hall. Lily shook her head at herself. Her legs were taking to the Forbidden Forest. The one place that she had wondered into from time to time. She looked a bit amused, surprised at her apparently reckless. Further into the Forest Lily sensed that she was not alone. The back of her hairs pricked up as she pulled out her wand. She saw the faint outline of a person as she stepped out of the shadows.
Once she got a good look at the person Lily almost wished she didn’t step out. “Selwyn.” She greeted him, ever so politely. The new rules indicated that she should get on one knee for a pureblood. That she would never ever do. Talk about degrading someone, she thought to herself. She gripped her wand tightly. Never letting her guard down in a Slytherin’s company. “What are you doing here? Should you be at the Hall for dinner?” She should have paid more attention to herself and what she was speaking. It was a dangerous thing for her. She had a feeling that this encounter wouldn’t go that well. Tagged. Leroy! Words. 785 Notes. It was time we thread these two! Credits. The template is credit to Laura

SOMETIMES I FIND IT HARD• to believe there's someone else who could be •JUST AS MESSED UP AS ME The winds blew, shaking the branches and leaves of the towering trees and yet, he made no move. Not when the shadows danced in front of him, as if beckoning him to come closer. Not when the sudden cries of the birds hidden within the forest broke the silence, the sound of their flapping wings mixing in with the rustling of the leaves. Not when, in the distance, a howl could be heard, lone, loud and hungry. In fact, had it been anyone lesser, they probably would have turned back and made their way to the Great Hall, tail tucked between their legs. But, he was not anyone lesser; he was Leroy Selwyn, and the Forbidden Forest did nothing to scare him. He wasn’t so easily frightened as others, like a first year lost in the castle after curfew. He could practically hear the beckoning of the many dark creatures that resided in the forest, his dark eyes seemingly matching that of the shadows, dancing and watching him. Waiting.
The smirk that graced his face was far from a mirthful one. It was troubling, sadistic, dark. Of course, as a wolf would to the moon, Leroy answered the silent calls of the Forbidden Forest. Of the shadows that waited for him to make his way, deeper and deeper into their darkness as they surrounded him. And he would have. If not for the fact that someone – apparently it was Evans, the bloody Head Girl from Gryffindor – had interrupted him before he could. The smirk that was there earlier seemed to have disappeared as his facial expression remained indifferent. Though, Evans probably wouldn’t have been able to tell anyways, Leroy didn’t even glance her way, even as she spoke to him.
It was silent for a few moments, as if she never said a word or he were just ignoring her. Finally, Leroy broke the silence, still not looking at the redhead whom would more than likely try his patience. Of course, she was incredibly lucky she wasn’t as much of a weakling as the others from Gryffindor. Though he suspected it was something of an impulse – reckless and foolish, which was probably the reason why she was in Gryffindor – that made her act all high and mighty, even if she were Head Girl. As a muggleborn and with the new law passed, she really didn’t have any right to speak to him in the manner that she did, but Leroy wasn’t one to follow the rules anyway. Again, Lily Evans was one lucky chit. Had she run into any other Slytherin, she would have faced the consequence, but she didn’t necessarily know that. Evans. he finally acknowledged, never once turning his head to look at her. His hands remained in his pockets, leisurely as if there was nothing better he had to be doing.
Of course, there really wasn’t. Though, as the Gryffindor aforementioned, all students should be in the Great Hall. And again, Leroy wasn’t one to follow rules. He broke them. I believe you have more things to worry about than me not being at the Great Hall, Head Girl, he all but sneered, stating her title mockingly. Sure, as Head Girl she supposedly had authority over him. But, really, this was Leroy Selwyn. No one had authority over him that he did not permit, Head Girl or Headmaster.
Shouldn’t you be at the Great Hall as well? Setting a good example and all that, eh, Evans? he openly mocked, taking a few steps closer to the trees that began the vast forest that was forbidden to students. Of course, being Leroy, the fact that it was forbidden just made it his next place to wander. Dark creatures or not, the Forbidden Forest was practically calling his name. He just never expected goody-two-shoes Evans to be in the area. I could ask the same question; pray tell, what is Gryffindor’s dearest Head Girl doing at the Forbidden Forest? Especially when she shouldn’t even be here. he implied the fact that she should have been at the Great Hall.
Suddenly, the image of the pathetic Ravenclaw popped into his mind and he smirked only slightly. He highly doubted the boy would have made it to the Great Hall; he was still cowering in pain when the Slytherin left. His dark eyes took in the beginnings of the forest once more, as the smirk remained plastered to his face. Continuing on deeper into the Forbidden Forest – as he really wasn’t all too deep into it, unfortunately – Leroy didn’t bother with his wand, or even taking his hands out of his pockets. He was just wandering around, after all.
The shadows seemed to come to life after a short while, becoming darker and more prominent. Alas, this was his territory. Dark, ominous and completely dangerous. He could hear the rustling of the leaves, from both the creatures that lurked within the shadows and the wind that caused the chill. He shut his eyes for just a moment, and chuckled a low, entertained yet disturbing chuckle that would have sent shivers through a Hufflepuff before they ran.
Granted, even in the silence, it could barely be heard. Just a deep rumble within the forest that seemed to suddenly come to life.

----------------------------- The seventh year girl was quiet as she gazed up at the Slytherin. She shivered a bit as the winds past her, ruffling up her hair a bit. Goosebumps were appearing all of her arms as she ran her hands over her arm. All of her instincts were on high alert. Every part of her was screaming to get the hell out of the Forest. Despite those warnings she stayed put. It was something that she would soon come to regret. She frowned at the silence that was no doubt troubling her. Something prickled at the back of her neck as the hairs stood up on end. At the sound of her last name she jumped and then started to call herself foolish. There was nothing that scary about the Forbidden Forest. There was really no reason for Lily to be afraid. Or was there? She paused at that question. The corners of her lips twitched downwards into a small frown. “On the contrary Selwyn I have a lot of things to be worried about. The safety of the Hogwarts students as a matter of fact and you, are in the forest.” Students did not listen to the rules at the beginning of the feat of course. The forest was forbidden. For reasons that Lily still does not understand although she was beginning to. At nighttime, it was enough to set her on the edge. She fingered her wand, a bit comfortable at the contact between the wood and her fingers.
She made a slight face at him. “I do not need you to be questioning my whereabouts Selwyn.” The nerve of him. “I just…was not hungry then.” The wand was raised slightly at him. Her eyes glittered like cold stones. She could not help but to flush a bit at his next words. “I did not want to go to the common room and…well I just wound up in here.” Her frowned deepened. “I have the right to go anywhere I want without someone questioning me. You might want to remember that the next time we meet up again.” There was no doubt that Lily would regret her words soon enough. She ran a hand through her hair. The one hand that was not gripping the wand tightly. She took a deep breath as she slowly loosen it just a bit. She was not about to let her guard down no matter what. Who knows what danger she might face in the forest and with a Slytherin alone? The thought itself made her shudder. Lily could not help but to glance around, her paranoia was at her all-time high. I should have gone to the common room, she thought to herself. I would be nice and safe there. Probably curled up next to the fire with a good book!
No. I HAD to go in the forest and find something to do! She was staring at the Slytherin boy as she struggled with her thoughts. She was trying to keep them quiet. The last thing she wanted to do was to get in trouble. If another person would have walked in and saw the two of them then that was it for Lily. She would have been hanging from her wrists in the dungeons and tortured until she bled. Or even worse her whole family could be paying for her trouble making. Stop that! A small voice in the back of her head hissed at her. Do not even think about that. Her thoughts and imagination was running wild. She took a deep shaking breath as she blinked and glanced around. Where was he at? Lily hesitated for a bit. This was her chance. Her chance to get out of the forest and run like hell back to the caste. And forget about everything. Despite her silent protests she started to follow him. The two students were starting to walk deeper into the forest.
She looked around and had to shudder a bit. The noise and the shadows seemed more…there. More alive. Her heart dropped into her stomach at his chuckle. “S-Selwyn, we should leave now.” Lily stuttered a bit. She then winced at how foolish she sounded. All of her hairs were on the back of her neck. “We do not know what dangers will be lurking here and we should get back to the Great Hall!” She tried to sound more convincing. She tried to have more authority but that failed as she caught the slightest tremble in her voice. Tagged. Leroy! Words. 753 Notes. You can KILL me for this late reply! SOMETIMES I FIND IT HARD• to believe there's someone else who could be •JUST AS MESSED UP AS ME Leroy’s eyes flickered in the direction he knew the Gryffindor head girl to be before focusing in front of him once more. She was a muggleborn, there were laws against them. And yet she had the audacity to come and barge into the Forbidden Forest and tell him he was wrong? That she should be worried about the other students? Like him. The thought made him want to laugh. Instead, the seventh year just chuckled slightly. I don’t think it’s others that you should be worried about, Evans. he commented, still not even bothering to turn towards the girl and look at her. Of course, that was just how he was. He didn’t care who he was talking to, no one would get his attention unless he allowed it so. Leroy was the epitome of the pureblood that stood up high and followed his own rules. Not even the ministry or headmaster could get him to do something he didn’t choose. And he wouldn’t have it any other way. But the thought of Lily Evans, Gryffindor extraordinaire, talking to him as if she was equal or had the right to, was completely laughable.
As you are a muggleborn, I believe I can. he retorted, knowing full well that the blood status was a touchy subject for most muggleborns and even halfbloods. Purebloods, however, had no problem exploiting it. What’s wrong, Potter finally give up on you? he sneered, bringing up the pureblood that most likely owned the witch that dared to bother him. Leroy really found the girl to be lucky, very lucky. Had he not had his fill of cursing others, then she would most probably be in deep pain by now. He briefly wondered if he left her there, if any of the other creatures that wandered in the Forest attempt to make a snack of the muggleborn. Or you just didn’t want to eat with those pathetic things you call housemates? he didn’t even bother acknowledging the Gryffindors as people, but rather things. But, that was how Leroy worked. Evans was just really lucky he wasn’t in a bad mood, otherwise, the verbal and most likely physical abuse – through spells of course – would be much, much worse.
At her threat, he openly laughed. Not a chuckle, but a laugh. A deep, amused laugh; aka, a real laugh, as if she had just told him the funniest joke he had ever heard. However, despite the fact that it was a laugh, it was still dark in nature, slightly mocking. It just showed, Leroy’s nature was how he was. He was wearing no mask, he wasn’t pretending to act like he was the top boss. He was Leroy Selwyn and he didn’t pretend anything. This was his true nature, as disturbing as it may be for some. I believe you should heed your own advice, Evans. his voice suddenly a cold, detached monotone, contrary to the amused laugh before. Finally, he turned only slightly to look Evans in the eye. The meaning in his cold, dark eyes was clear. He meant his threat.
Or you may end up a little broken toy for Potter. he stated as if he had just said the grass was green or her hair was red. It was a fact, a warning. A threat. One he could easily and would follow through with. Righteous Gryffindors like the Head Boy and Girl were some of the many types of people that Leroy immensely disliked. They always ruined his fun, and most were annoying anyways. Always thinking they were right and good always triumphed. Well, if it did, then where was Albus Dumbledore?
He turned back to the forest, essentially ignoring the girl. He smirked a bit as he heard her footsteps making their way towards him. Despite the fact that he wanted to be alone, he found it amusing that Evans was afraid of a little forest and would rather be with a Slytherin than alone in it. He also saw that her wand was out – taken out earlier though he made no move to curse her…yet. He’d admit, Evans was more of a challenge than the other weaklings that were in Gryffindor, but still. She was no match for him. He knew it. It was a fact. And he wouldn’t mind in the slightest to prove it to her. What’s the matter? Afraid of the little forest? Whatever happened to that idiocy you Gryffindors call bravery? he mocked, continuing in even deeper, despite what Evans had said. If she didn’t want to be there, then she could leave for all he cared. But he, he was going to wander around a bit. Perhaps find a source of entertainment. Or see how an acromantula would sound when it’s in pain. Maybe find a few poisonous plants and see what happens to the students who unfortunately grabbed the wrong goblet the next morning.
Either way, Leroy was still going to travel around a bit. Perhaps half the night, or whenever he got bored of it. Faintly, he heard Evans talking about ‘lurking dangers’ or whatever it was that got her knickers in a twist and heading back to the Great Hall. He scoffed at her, not bothering to hide his distain at that moment. “Dangers lurking here”? he mocked, Still don’t get it, do you Evans? Not surprising. he muttered the last part under his breath. Of course, despite the fact she may feel better about not being alone in the Forbidden Forest, it was better than being with him. Head back to the Great Hall? Go ahead, like a good, obedient little pet. a smirk on his lips as he looked at her with his dark eyes.
Then without another glance or word to her, he turned and continued to wander. Deeper and deeper. Until the rustling of leaves stopped him. He hoped it wasn’t just some dumb animal or anything, otherwise nothing would happen save for the pathetic thing to run away.
Leroy hoped they had run into an acromantula or perhaps a werewolf. Any of the dark or dangerous creatures that lived within the Forbidden Forest would be fine. And let the fun begin. he muttered under his breath, a smirk on his lips as he waited to see what it was, his stance completely relaxed and not at all ready for an attack.
That was just his way.

----------------------------- At first Lily did not know what to say. Her eyes flicked from Leroy to the trees and back again. She was certain that he was hiding something but as to what that was she wasn’t so sure. The red haired girl bit down on her lower lip. Not for the first time this year she felt completely out of her element. She was not sure what to do. A part of her wanted to stay firm. It wanted her to stand her ground and keep her beliefs firm. She frowned a bit at his words. “I have every right to worry about the other students and that means you Mr.” There was nothing but firmness in her tone. Lily wanted to make sure that the Slytherin understood that she wasn’t going anywhere for a long time. And what if you die in the process? A small voice hissed in the back of her mind. People would say that you were a complete idiot for staying. She let out a small sigh as she shakes her head. She drew herself up to full height as her emerald eyes blazed with anger. “As the Head Girl I order you to come back with me to the Great Hall.” She stayed firm but her voice faltered somewhere in her words. Lily was not sure that, in this new world, she had the authority to do that even as the chosen Head Girl.
The Gryffindor winced a bit at her thoughts. They were roaming around in her mind again. Going from one direction to the next. She was a bit uncertain at her words. Lily had a feeling that she won’t get out of this one alive. Oh yes, James would certainly murder you, a part of her hissed. He would hate you for as long as you live. She blinked out of her thoughts as she frowned. “I might be a muggleborn but I’m damn proud of it.” Lily retorted furiously. Her eyes were now blazing. “A muggleborn whose at the top of the class with good grades. Who spends most of her time locked up in the common room studying. I know what I’m going to do after graduation and want to enter a career. You’re not going to stop me from doing it either.” She challenged. Lily silently threatened him to do it. After this year Lily planned to enter St. Mungo’s. She never liked working at the Ministry in any department. She knew they were corrupted and this year opened her eyes completely to the world. Quidditch was something that she held very little interest in. The red haired girl had a secret fear of heights. It was bad enough that she almost shook with terror at her first flying lessons. Good Merlin I hate my mind right now, she thought biting down on the inside of her cheeks now.
She could not help but to shudder at his laugh. Her eyes narrowed a bit. Did he found her threat THAT funny? Lily jumped as he spoke and shuddered again. “A lot of people might tell you that I don’t tend to take my own advice at times. In fact I never do of course because it doesn’t matter to me.” She frowned a bit now. She tried to look away once he glanced in her eyes but found that she couldn’t. Shivers went through her spine. Her knees bended slightly as if she wanted to bow but somehow she tore her gaze from him, resisting the urge to. Damn those Slytherins, she thought with a small scowl on her face. They’ll use every trick in the book to make you listen. She scowled. “He did NOT give up on me I’ll have you know. We’re very much together and what does it matter to you?” Nowadays she tended to get a bit offensive at the mere insults of James. Merlin she counted herself lucky that she was with him in a sense. Still, it was interesting at how things have changed and for the better of it she supposed. Her eyes narrowed even further down. She gripped her wand tightly, but not too tightly that she felt the wood cracked. Really, he was asking for a death wish.
“I told you not to say that!” Lily shouted. It seemed that her voice was the only one speaking now. The creatures of the forests were suddenly nowhere to be found. “You of all people should know that James wouldn’t leave me for anything!” It was here that she closed her mouth. Revealing too much information there Lily! A voice hissed in the back of her mind. She didn’t want to reveal anything that could be used against her. Especially to a Slytherin. Lily took a deep shaking breath as she followed after him. She was a bit determined to turn his mind around. Why was she so insistent on getting the both of them out of the forbidden forest Lily would never know. She made a slight face at his next words. “Bravery is not idiocy. And who says I’m afraid of the forest? I dealt with some situations that are worse than this.” Of course that last statement was not exactly true. She wanted to prove to Leroy that she wasn’t a weakling Gryffindor girl. That she was different from her other housemates. She could see that this was starting to become hard. The corners of her lips twitched downwards in a small frown. “I am NOT a pet you idiot. When are you going to get it through your thick skull.” She started to mutter under her breath as she continued to walk behind him, freezing at the sound of the rustling leaves. She raised her wand a bit higher, all of her senses on high alert. Tagged. Leroy! Words. 970 Notes. Let the games begin! SOMETIMES I FIND IT HARD• to believe there's someone else who could be •JUST AS MESSED UP AS ME He rolled his eyes at the persistent Head Girl, a slight scowl appearing on his features before disappearing, as if it was never there. Once again, his face remained passive and stoic, not that she’d know of course. Leroy just wasn’t one to show emotion, whether or not people were around him. Apparently, being Head Girl meant that she could do what she wanted, so long as she was helping others. Of course, Leroy never asked for her help and he certainly didn’t want it. He scoffed at her words, wondering what she was thinking at the moment, saying that she had every right to worry about him. I don’t believe it does; you’re touching concern is not needed here nor is it wanted. he stated bluntly, his deep, smooth voice monotone. Of course, despite the fact that she was beginning to annoy him, Leroy found Lily Evans to be quite entertaining; she certainly wasn’t like most other muggleborns that cowered at his feet. Of course, with someone like James Potter that owned her, he suspected it shouldn’t have been too much of a shock that she remained feisty and refused to bow down to those above her.
That is, James Potter was far too lenient and free with the girl. Had she been owned by a Slytherin, they’d have broken her, at least partially, no doubt. However, as that was not the case, Leroy figured he just had to stick with this amusing little girl until he got bored. You order me? he asked, his voice low, amused but with a dark hint to it. He never listened to anyone unless he chose to. No one ordered him around, no one could tell him what to do. Not the Ministry, not the Headmaster, hell, not even Lord Voldemort could order him around without him choosing to follow. And that certainly meant not the Head Girl of his school. It was all play to him, really. I don’t follow orders from anyone, least of all you. he sneered at her, once again, noting for a moment the grip she had on her wand. He also noted the fact that though she was indeed firm in her words before, she wasn’t so much when she attempted to order him around. Amusing, really.
Proud? he questioned, not even bothering to turn towards her, once again. Such great accomplishments, I assure you, he mocked, however that does not take away from what you are. Who you are. How much power you have. he listed, fairly certain she’d take it the wrong way, as another insult to her blood status.
Really, the seventh year Slytherin didn’t particularly care about blood status – though he found it rather useful to mention when riling someone up, much like now – but rather how much power an individual had. That was one of the reasons why he chose to align himself with Lord Voldemort, for the wizard was certainly powerful. You may be top of the class, Evans, but remember, not everyone studies as you do. Take him for example. He was an intelligent wizard, however, school was just play to him; he didn’t apply himself if he didn’t want to. Unlike Evans, who, as she said, spent every night in the common room studying. And if you’re proud of having to study to be number one, then I can assure you: don’t be.
Surely she realized that her dreams had become even more nonexistent from before, considering the new rules and laws against the muggleborns. He had thought her to be intelligent, but perhaps he was wrong. I don’t have to do anything to stop you, you idiotic little girl. Or did you forget the reason you must now be owned like an animal? Oh, how he enjoyed mocking the girl. She was still on her high horse thanks to Potter, and even with the new laws, she hadn’t been knocked down. Of course, Leroy was more than happy to knock Evans off her high horse, especially in the most ruthless and cruel of ways.
You speak boldy for someone who should know their place. Once again, he was not mentioning her blood status, but rather the fact that though she was top of her class, but still wasn’t powerful enough against someone like him. However, he doubted she’d realize it; after all, he was just another Slytherin, wasn’t he? Though, she’d put up a good fight – he’d admit – there was no doubt in his mind that she would lose. After all, experience won battles, experience, strategies and power. And Leroy had them all.
It should matter to you, otherwise it’d be the last mistake you’d end up making. he threatened her, once again, his eyes glittering with promises of pain and pure torture. When she yelled – he knew she had a temper, but must she really resort to yelling? It was slowly aggravating him, as annoying as it was – Leroy just turned towards her with a raised eyebrow. It doesn’t. he answered, his voice cold and detached, as it usually was. Just wondering how Potter’d react if you ever got into some trouble. he casually stated, the slightest of smirks on his face. Now that was something he would gladly mention and use against the hot-headed idiot named Head Boy. Not that he planned on leaving Evans there or cursing her or anything – but the thought was there.
He ignored her for the most part, even when she insulted him by calling him thick. He knew he wasn’t, no matter what his grades said. Most of them were rather good actually, however, there were often times when he didn’t feel like doing his work, so he didn’t. Of course, that brought his grade down, but he always did well enough to keep it within the O range, overall. He scoffed at her though, knowing full well that she was afraid, even if just in the slightest way. Heh, I doubt you’ll get into anything worse than what’ll happen here. he muttered under his breath, a malicious smirk on his face. Of course, anything to do with Leroy and anything dark related never ended well for anyone or anything with him at the moment. That was a fact.
Leroy himself remained relatively safe, considering he only protects himself. Evans had her wand out anyways, surely she’d be able to keep herself safe…if at least for the most part.
Oh? But you are a pet. Why else would you have dog tags that labeled you as owned, with the owner’s name? he mocked, not at all sympathetic with the muggleborn, or any of them for that matter. It was their fault for not being strong enough to win. It was their fault for not being able to become something more that demanded respect. Their fault they were too weak.
At least, that was how Leroy saw it.
He noted though, that she seemed resolute on following him. Unfortunately for her, he was far from done with the Forbidden Forest – and he was never one to just walk away in the face of danger. Rather, he was the one who stood, looking it in the eye, perhaps laugh a bit, depending on how dangerous the situation was. However, Leroy was not the type of person you’d go asking about danger for his definition is vastly different from many others.
Tch, a wild deer, he scoffed at the creature that emerged from the foliage, his dark eyes glaring at it as if it was to blame for the lack of ‘danger’ they were currently facing. It seemed more interested in Evans however, looking at her. However, he just turned away, not bothering at all with the deer or Evans. The two could stick together and get lost for all he cared. How disappointing. he muttered, walking away from it. As the deer continued looking at Evans, Leroy just left – he didn’t care if she was too distracted or not, the Slytherin just left her.
Without even the slightest bit of guilt or even a glance back, Leroy just continued walking, hands shoved into his pockets as he took a leisure stroll away from the path that most likely marked the safest route to take.
Now, if only he could find a creature…

----------------------------- Not for the first time Lily began to question herself as to why. Why she decided to walk out of the Great Hall at dinner. Why she had decided to fancy a stroll in the Forbidden Forest of all places. If she knew she would encounter one of the most arrogant Slytherins on the face of the Earth she would have reconsider. Merlin help me here, she pleaded for perhaps the millionth time. She quirked an eyebrow at his words and huffed a bit. “Every student is my priority and unfortunally that means arrogant ones as yourself. If they could have picked a different Head Girl then I would not see a problem with that.†It was here that Lily decided to shut up for once. She was biting down on the inside of her cheeks. Her statement was something that she had wondered for a long time now. Why had they chosen her as Head Girl when they could have easily picked a pureblood. One that most students would probably listen to as a matter of fact. The red haired girl didn’t care in the slightest bit. She idly wondered if they picked her because they wanted to play by the rules. The mere thought of that almost made her laugh out loud. This was not the first time she had been thinking this. James would probably murder her if he took a glimpse into her thoughts. One of the reasons why she was glad that mind reading was not a part of the required class.
Her eyes flashed a bit in anger at his words. “You Slytherins do not care who’s in charge do you? You just do whatever you want when you want it. It makes me sick.†Her voice was filled with venom which honestly surprised the girl. Then again with her temper it was hard to tell with her. “And yes, I order you to. It’s quite clear that you have a problem with that Selwyn.†Lily wondered if this was a battle of the wits or if it was something else. The hairs on the back of her neck sprang up and she shuddered. She took a deep shaking breath trying to compose herself. Really, his words were cutting deep into her skin. “Yes I am proud. Proud to be a muggleborn. I would not have it any other way either.†Her grip on the wand loosened a bit but she still looked wearily at him. She opened her mouth and closed it, repeating the action several times before finally deciding to closing it. The nerve of him! Once again Lily realized how lucky she was having James claiming her. She doubt she would even be herself within a few days of Leroy’s company. A small shudder ran through her spine again at the thought. She could already picture herself broken.
Lily could see herself shirking around him, watching what she had to say. The picture in her head was not at all pleasant. “I am very much aware of the fact I have hardly any power Selwyn.†Her voice was extra soft. Her emerald green eyes were blazing in silent fury. “And what, prey, would you go about changing that? I’m already claimed. You can’t claim me no matter how much you wanted to.†Alright Lily, a small voice in the back of her head hissed at her. It is definitely time to shut up! She stiffened, once again thanking Merlin that James was not like the other pureblood wizards. “I am NOT idiotic nor am I NOT an animal. I’m a HUMAN Selwyn. HUMAN.†At her outburst birds suddenly flew out of the trees and scattered into the evening sky. An action that made the seventeen year old girl jump a few inches into the air. She was certainly not expecting that! There was something about the Slytherin that had gotten under her skin. She took a deep shaking breath. “Thank you for your concern,†Her voice was icy cold. “I know my place already and it’s certainly much higher than yours that is for sure!†She ran a hand through her hair.
When he spoke next time Lily could not help but to shudder at his voice. A flicker of fear went through her eyes. “You know he would go crazy if-†Something happens to me, she finished that sentence in her mind. There was no need to tell him that. To tell him what James’s number one weakness was. She had a feeling that half, if not all, the school knew that she was his weakness. The one person that he would die for. At the thought of him dying she hastily blinked away sudden tears. Must not think that, she thought to herself. Must not think of that right now. I will never think like that. She ignored his threat, finding it funny rather than terrifying. It was not the first time that she had been threatened like this before. And it certainly would not be the last. She continued to watch him wearily wondering what on earth he was planning. Wondering what was going on in that head of his. Lily stiffened. She probably would never got use to the fact that she was now a ‘pet’. Her and the rest of the muggleborns and halfbloods in this new world. For the last few days she was trying to get use to the fact that she had little rights. It was really a bunch of bull to be honest.
They were, after all, human. She tried to ignore his words but it was probably useless at this point. “I am not owned!†She hissed back at him. “For the last time I am NOT a pet!†She didn’t understand why she would just turn around and leave if she didn’t like to stay. Her heart sank as another thought occurred to her. She didn’t truly know the way out of this forest. Damn me, she thought to herself sighing a bit. She slowly started to walk towards to the deer. She loved animals really. More than twenty minutes later after making sure that the deer was heading off she looked around for Leroy. Merlin I have got to pay attention! She thought to herself as she rushed after. All she ended up doing was bumping into him and grabbing him so she wouldn’t slip or fall down. Oh dear Merlin am I in trouble. Tagged. Leroy! SOMETIMES I FIND IT HARD• to believe there's someone else who could be •JUST AS MESSED UP AS ME Priorities. Leroy had priorities and they almost never had to do with anyone else. He was a Slytherin, self-preservation first. So when Evans had told him that every student was her priority, Leroy scoffed. That type of priority would get you killed, of that he was sure of. Worry about no one but yourself, and even then, Leroy wasn’t worried. He never worried about himself unless facing someone with greater power than him. One such as Lord Voldemort, who defeated the greatest wizard of all time, Albus Dumbledore. However, there was a small voice in the back of his head that kept telling him the old coot’s age had finally caught up to him, and that was the only reason Lord Voldemort won. Had they been the same age, well, there was no telling. However, Leroy never spoke that thought out loud. It would not do well for his self-preservation. And, pray tell, who would want to have a Head Girl such as you to worry for them? Hm? Potter, perhaps, but he may be the only one. he stated maliciously, oh-so-ready to tear into Lily Evans, verbally and figuratively.
Do not delude yourself. Just because you are Head Girl means nothing, especially when it is given to someone of dirty blood. he sneered, once again, giving more evidence that points to him being a pureblood elitist. It wasn’t his fault most muggleborns were sensitive about their blood status. He found it pitiful; it was basically screaming out that their weakness was the prejudice against them. That they were not strong enough to get past them. Of course, there was one point in time where he thought Evans would be able to get past the prejudices, however, it seemed as if her potential disappeared along with Albus Dumbledore. Pity, really. Us Slytherins? Well, love, he spat out the endearment as if it were a verbal poison against the Gryffindor, you should really check your own house. Who are they called, ah, yes, he stated, after a slight pause, as if thinking when they both knew exactly who he was talking about. At least, he presumed Evans knew, otherwise her intelligence really wasn’t up to par with the praise the professors give the redhead, The Marauders, no? They run around as if they own the castle, and yet you call us, arrogant? he raised an eyebrow, a dark smirk appearing on his face as he readied to tear into her once more.
Oh, but my dear Evans, once again, the endearment was not used as an endearment, in fact it was as if he were talking down to her, it is you who make us sick. You and your righteous ways, with your filthy blood and know-it-all attitude. It’s not only sad, but it’s completely pathetic. he spat, his voice filled with figurative knives, each aimed towards the Gryffindor that stood before him. He gave a soft chuckle, raising one of his hands out of his pockets, if only to appear to run a hand through his hair. Really, he was just aching to knock Evans down, hard. You sound so confident, I wonder, are you really? his eyes glittered. Oh, he was going to tear. her. down. and he was going to enjoy every moment of it. The only thing I would be confident, if I were you, Evans, would be that at any moment, at any place, someone will draw their wand on you. They will and you will be cursed and hexed and jinxed within an inch of your pathetic little life. And there is nothing you or Potter or Potter’s little gang can do about it. Why? As he spoke, he turned and began to walk towards her, his eyes shining with dark intent, not even caring if Evans had her wand in her hand. Because you already lost. That old fool Dumbledore is dead. Your precious Potter won’t be around forever. the threat against James’ life was hidden in the words, behind the venom with which he spoke his name. Leroy wondered whether or not Lily Evans would be able to catch onto it.
He rather hoped she did. You shouldn’t be proud to be muggleborn because you are nothing. Nothing but a pet, a slave and that is law. he all but whispered his dark eyes looking straight into Evans’ own, a cruel smirk tugging at his lips. He watched her for her reaction, smirking as she looked like a gaping fish. He also kept an eye on her wand as well. He would not throw the first curse, but he would be ready to retaliate. And he was waiting for that moment. He just rather hoped Evans would be a better fight than some of the others he had. Sure, he had already cursed a pathetic Ravenclaw half to death earlier, however, Evans. He would not pass up a chance to duel her. Besides, she was getting on his nerves, she would deserve no less. Hm, at least you’re not completely moronic. he replied easily, to her statement. At least she knew she had no power. Her next words however, had him rolling his eyes at her. Really now? Like I said before, Potter won’t be around forever. the message was clear. If Potter was gone, then Evans would be fair game. He was pretty sure she would fight tooth and nail to keep Potter, but he doubted they’d last too long. After all, he knew of several other purebloods who wanted Evans all for themselves, to get back at her for making them look bad as she got the top grades even with her blood status.
He proceeded to just ignore her as she went on a spiel on how she wasn’t an animal but was a human instead. It amused him, honestly, as shown when he chuckled to her words. Of course she wasn’t an animal, that was why she had to be owned and tagged. Just like every other human out there. He scoffed at her, she may as well be an animal, especially with the new laws coming out. He gave her no satisfaction of a reply, instead turning his attention away from her, as if she weren’t even worth his breath anymore. Of course, he was hoping this would get her rather agitated. However, when she mentioned her place was higher than his, it felt as if the temperature dropped, chilling and just plain cold.
Leroy fingered the wand he had with him, as if contemplating whether or not to use it against the Head Girl. He made a show of choosing not to, before turning to face Evans, his expression terrifyingly blank, his eyes dark and empty. Like a dark abyss. You may believe so, however, his voice was just as cold, showing no emotion whatsoever, as if Leroy had just been empty this entire time. No dark glint in his eyes, nothing. Just, emptiness. It was something he had learned to do while learning occlumency; shut out all emotion, so all that was left as nothing. Just an empty shell, no matter how he was feeling. It was a disconcerting change for anyone who saw it. your true place, your rightful place, is below me. You are nothing, he repeated, you are not worth the mud on my shoes. Your place, Evans, is really, six feet under.
With that said, he just turned and ventured on. He took note of her words as she stopped them and gave a smirk, the dark glint returning to his eyes as Evans couldn’t see him anymore. Of course, as soon as someone stops mid-sentence, what they said was usually important that they didn’t want the listener to know. Of course, Leroy already knew. Potter’s weakness was, of course, Evans, as pathetic as that was. Potter is pathetic. he continued to insult her – her what? Owner? Boyfriend? – Potter without a care. He just chuckled as the fire seemed to return to Evans, but didn’t say anything against her denials. Because that’s all they were, denials; because she was a pet. She was owned, even if it was by someone like Potter.
When he was finally able to lose her, as the muggleborn was probably still with the deer, Leroy smirked. He just continued wandering the entire time, deeper and deeper into the seemingly endless Forbidden Forest. He prided himself on his control, his power, his strength and knowledge and abilities. However, it came as a surprise when the redhead suddenly burst through the shrubbery behind him and ran right into him, even going as far as to grab onto him so she wouldn’t fall. He stilled. However, he didn’t tense up, which brought some of his pride back. Inwardly, Leroy was scowling at himself, he should have known it was coming, he shouldn’t have been surprised. So, he glanced sideways, as Evans had run into him, and smirked at the redhead, an arrogant smirk that so many saw from him. Evans, if you wanted me you should have just said so. But what would poor Potter think? You’d break his pathetic little heart. he mocked, before reaching over and pulling her, against the trunk of a nearby tree. He lifted his other arm and trapped her between them, her arms in his hands, making it nearly impossible to use her wand as he pinned both her arms above her head.
But of course, I wouldn’t lower myself. he whispered maliciously. Before he released one hand, only to grip both of her rather small wrists with one hand, and plucking the wand out of her grasp. Finally, he let her go, twirling the wand as if he didn’t just steal it from her. I suggest you watch yourself Evans. You’re lucky, witch, that I choose not to torture you. was all he stated before he continued on, finding his search for a dangerous creature much more important than the Gryffindor he had just stolen from, her wand still twirling in his hands. They were deeper into the Forbidden Forest and Leroy was certain something was coming.
Something he was certainly waiting for. The chilling winds seemed to confirm it. The ominous feeling; a dark creature was nearby. And Leroy was going to find it.
