James had sniggered along with his new friend at the weird boy but the girl jumped up to defend him. And from that moment on, James started to see Lily Evans very differently. He realised he had passed judgement on her too quickly. She wasn’t a crying schoolgirl she was a fierce, determined, hot-headed young lady who was not afraid to stand up to him. No one in his life had ever told him ‘No’ until Lily came along and James became captivated by her.
full name: James Ignotus Potter
age: Seventeen
year: Seventh
birthday:1 march
blood line:Pureblood
occupation: Student
house: Gryffindor
He spent the following years as the most popular boy in school. Adored or hated, everyone had an opinion on James Potter and his arrogance and his transfiguration skill and his pranks and his ability to seem as if he didn’t care about anything much. Truth was, on the inside, a small part of James cared an awful lot about a lot of things. He hated pureblood extremists, he hated that his best mate suffered every month, he hated that his other best mate lived under tyrannical parents who no longer loved him, he hated that Evans hung around with Snivelly and paid him no attention except to glare or scowl whenever he tried to strike up conversation or ask her out. Every time he got turned down it broke him a little bit. But he didn’t show it, that wasn’t the reputation he had built up for himself. It was easy to show some traits, the fact that he was loyal to a tee, excellent at quidditch and a joker and prankster in chief. He didn’t mind that the entire school knew that he was love struck with Lily but he did mind them knowing that it bothered him that she hated him. He could see it was full on hatred. But he wasn’t going to show that he cared and he wasn’t going to change. He was James Potter he did nothing for no one but himself.
But Hogwarts did change him. The Wizarding World changed him. He became a better person as he grew older. Matured. Things happened at school; he saved Severus from certain death, he held close friends as they cried over broken relationships, supported Moony day in day out, even became an animagus finally achieving it in their fifth year in order to help him, gave Sirius a bed in his house when he finally left his abusive family. He saw psychotic Slytherin students practice dark magic on others and realised that dark times were coming a lot sooner than most people did. It was those sorts of events that changed him. He realised that he had to be more responsible, that it was time to take a stand. He could easily carry on with his head in the sand, he was a pureblood he could get through it but that wasn’t fair. He cared. He cared about not only his friends but a lot of other people as well, cared about equality and justice and what was right. He’d changed from a self-centred spoiled brat into someone that would put others first.
One of the last things Dumbledore did before he died was write to James and make him Head Boy. He’s still mischievous, cheeky, trouble making, quidditch obsessed, competitive and head over heels in love with one girl only. But he’s also strong and kind-hearted and focused on making things right, in joining the Order of the Phoenix, in fighting back and protecting everyone he cares about in these troubled times.[/ul][/blockquote]

There was a little voice in his head that had to keep reminding him that this was real. That he had actually scored himself a date with this girl. Lily Evans who for five and a half years previously had not so much as batted an eyelash at him and then that fateful day in the courtyard had happened and James thanked Merlin for quidditch practices because otherwise they would not have bumped into each other. Well, actually James had whacked her with his broomstick but who cared about the details. He felt like he had to keep pinching himself and was it his imagination or were they drawing looks from their fellow students around them? He supposed it would be a bit of news at Hogwarts that James Potter and Lily Evans were seen drinking together in The Three Broomsticks. Not only drinking, but being civil to one another, no drink throwing or anything... yes, it would most definitely be around the school by the time they got back to the castle. Honestly, it didn’t bother James, it made him look good, he was the one out with the girl they all wanted.
If James knew that Lily was thinking that she was the lucky one he’d be completely bemused. He never had taken any notice to any other girls’ advances. In fact he wasn’t sure anyone had ever come on to him ever before. ”Please, call me James.” He said, his tone teasing gently. ”’Potter’ makes you sound like a teacher, Evans.” He grinned at her, fully aware that the use of each other’s surnames was an ingrained habit and one that James was unlikely to drop anytime soon. He loved saying her first name, he really did; it felt wonderful on his tongue. But the light hearted banterer in him would probably forever use her surname at random times. Besides, he knew she had said it because he had called her ‘Evans.’
With a chuckle at her compliment, he flicked the collar of his shirt and pretended to wipe dust from his shoulders. ”What this old thing? I just threw it on.” It was funny because it was cheesy, and light-hearted, right? He rubbed his hands nervously down his legs beneath the table before reaching above to take a swig from his drink, knocking his hand on the wood as he did so in his nerves. He did feel comfortable around her and he was a natural at conversation, so he didn’t see that as problem. He was really just worried about impressing her. He wanted to come off well; he wanted her to see him as just James. Not that irritating, bullying show-off of a prat. He wanted her to understand that his need to brag stemmed from his insecurities and that he only showed off in order to impress her.
He opened his mouth at her words, his eyes holding shock as he looked across the table at her. All of these sudden discoveries that he had learned from her over the past few weeks. Had he actually been right all along? Had Lily been just as hung up on him as he had on her? From what she’d said so far he had to say that the answer to that question was yes. It was surprising, majorly so and he wasn’t sure what to say to that except to simply beam at her. He didn’t want to embarrass her by rubbing in the fact that he had been right; he wasn’t that kind of guy at least not to Lily, if anything he was just exceptionally pleased by the compliment. It made his heart soar and boosted his confidence no end. As did her reaction to his gift. ”I’m glad.” If his friends knew he’d done that he’d be getting stick from them for the rest of his life. But they weren’t here to jibe him about it and really this was what James was all about; cheesy romantic gestures.
”Well, I’m going to serenade you with my charm and wit and you’re going to fall even more in love with me.” He smiled at her but his expression softened considerably as his gaze met her face and he was instantly enchanted by her eyes. He looked into them for too long and blinked away hurriedly, heat rising to his cheeks. I’m on a date with Lily Evans! The voice in his head was singing that she was close enough to touch, which he desperately wanted to do. He rested his hands casually on the table. ”Actually, I was thinking that we could just have a drink here and then maybe walk through the village, grab an ice cream or something and the weather’s not too bad so we could sit outside, I know a nice little spot over near the Shrieking Shack.” He realised he was talking rather fast, rushing to get everything out and to discover her reaction to his plan. Hoping that she wouldn't mind being near the Shrieking shack because it would mean they would be alone.
He took another sip of his drink, unable to tear his eyes away from her, even if he felt he might be making her uncomfortable by looking at her all the time. He noticed the bracelet she seemed to be fond of fiddling with. He raised his index finger from the table to point at it. ”That’s nice.” He stated, hoping she would get the hint and tell him a little about it. He couldn’t get thoughts of buying her a charm to go on it out of his head. He had to remind himself to not get ahead of himself.
